Is there any way to recover the data short of buying a used Xserve G5 on ebay?
Sure. You restore from backup. You do have a backup, right?
If you don't... well, there's nothing peculiar about the RAID card that locks it to an XServe. You can pop it out and put in in another PCI-X-based based machine. Of course, newer machines are PCIe, so that's a consideration...
On the other hand, of the hundreds of XServe G5s I've run, over the years I've used them, I can count the number of motherboard failures on the fingers of my closed fist. Seriously. Power supply failures? yes. Disk failures? yes. Heck, memory/DIMM failures? yes, but not motherboards.
